  1. The mood of the story becomes very grim with the addition of grendel. he brings a type of fear and darkness to the life of herot.

  2. The mood of the men celebrating in Herot is jovial, good times had by all. When Grendel enters the story near the beginning, the mood takes a turn south, figuratively speaking. The story gets a bit darker in mood, when the threat of Grendel is held over all the Danes' heads. The threat of being eaten in the night lays heavy on their heads and actually forces some to move away from Herot, back to the city, out of fear.

  3. Like a sunny day that turned to a bad thunderstorm, is how one could describe Grendel's dramatic, gruesome entrance into Beowulf. However, the story seems to pick up its pace with his entrance, and things start to become more interesting. As mentioned before, the story picks up it's pace, because as Grendel enters, the problems at Herot begins, which causes the subsequent arrival of hero Beowulf to assist Hrothgar. Once Beowulf enters the story, the mood of the story changes back to one of hope, and relaxation, because one already knows that Grendel's reign of terror at Herot has come to it's end.

  4. The mood transitions quick from happy to somber. The people felt intimidated and afraid of Grendel. All hope seems to go down the drain since everyone was so happy before when something destructive comes around they don’t know how to react.

  5. The mood shifts from joyful to gruesome, when Grendel enters. Here these men were celebrating and enjoying themselves, when Grendel enters they all fear for their lives, because they know that one can defeat this demonic creature.

  6. Grendels entrance into the story turned the mood into a dark and mad event which created a scared sensation through out the town. Many were worried because of the reported deaths that took place. The fear and rage through out the town did not help the gruesome murders stop. Grendel could not be defeated. However, when Beowulf was called upon to possibly defeat Grendel a shift was made. Grendel was now in the arms of Beowulf being slaughtered. After the defeat of Grendel the mood was then changed into a sigh of relief for everyone.
