Grendel and grendel's mother anger differs drastically. Grendel was a violent and destructive creature that was fueled by anger, hunger, and power. The fact that no human being on the face of the earth could defeat him made him power hungry. His mother's anger however was sparked by the not only death, but slaughter of her one and only child. Grendel's mother anger is a bit more intensive because it was a vengeful anger. She wasn't a evil creature because she didn't start killing until after the death of Grendel. It is however, more powerful than Grendel becaus it is the anger of a vengeful mother who has just lost her child.
In my opinion, I figure Grendel's mother seems to be more evil than Grendel. Though Grendel goes around just killing soldiers "evey-which-way" no one really understands his purpose of doing so. On the other hand, Grendel's mother she comes to the mead hall seeking a specific warm body. This body didn't just happen to be Hrothgar's closet friend on mistake, there was a reason for her actions. As a result, this could lead the reader to believing that Grendel's mother has more evil intentions.
Grendel is tremendously more evil than his mother just because he terrorizes Herot at night out of impulse. Grendel is also more evil than his mother because of the sheer fact that he enjoys and gains satisfaction for killing and eating the men asleep at Herot. Grendel attains pleasure by overpowering the men that try to resist and fight back, and the ones who try to run in fear. As for Grendel's mother, she is obviously evil, for she is --Grendel's mother. However, Grendel's mother seems to act more out of revenge and spite, which is apparent by her attempt at revenge against Hrothgar by taking someone dear to him, where Beowulf had taken Grendel away from her.
Grendels mother seems to be more evil, just for the mere fact that she was seeking revenge. Grendel just killed random people, but grendels mother took the kings closest friend and showed him no mercy. Beowulf also nad a harder time battling grendels mother, so that shows that she was more aggressive. The fact that she was seeking revenge only added to her strength. At the end her fate was the same as grendel, but overall she was more evil.
Grendel's mother seems to be far less evil than Grendel. Grendel delighted in invading Herot and killing huge amounts of honorable men at a time simply for the sake of killing them. He hated everything about them partially due to the fact that they rejoiced in God but he was hated of God, he could'nt experience God's love, and hated all who could. Grendel's mother didn't even kill as many as Grendel did, and her reason for approaching Herot was simply for vengeance on her son's behalf. Therefore it should be concluded that Grendel was most definitely the more evil of the two.
Grendel is the evil one, his mother is just guilty by association. Grendel evil is brought on by his desire for afflicting pain and terror on all. As for Grendels' mom, her evil doings are brought on by her sadness and the loss of her only son. "Beowulf" speaks more about Grendels evilness and slightly about his mothers getting here revenge.
While Grendel's mother never quite matches the level of carnage that her son brought to Herot, it is difficult to say whether she is or is not more evil. On the one hand, the Anglo-Saxon tradition of reparation demands that she receive some form of recompense for Grendel's death, but on the other, she is attempting to take a human life. By modern-day standards, Grendel's mother is still contemptible in that regard, but Beowulf's world was not the modern day. Ultimately, though, I believe that Grendel is more evil if only because his actions have no justification whatsoever, whereas his mother's motives, while ignoble, are understandable.
In my opinion, both Grendel and his mother are equally evil because their both demons; if I had to pick who MORE evil I would pick Grendel. The reason why I pick Grendel is because he was killing the people for fun and because of his jealously. Whats more evil then killing for fun and jealously? Grendel attacked the Danes while they slept and un-armed, killing them and eating some. Grendel's mother is evil because she's a monster, but in the passage, she only attacked out of revenge and nothing else. Its like a Grendel is a serial killer who gets killed by a out of state detective (Beowulf) and then the serial killer's mother (Grendel's mother) kills the head sheriff's lieutenant (Hrothgar's closet friend).
Grendel is more evil than his mother because he did not have a solid reason why he started to kill the people. Grendel started to kill for the fact the people were playing music and also the fact that he was upset at the way his ancester was treated. His mother on the other hand was driven to kill by revenge. She was seeking revenge for the death of her only son.
Grendel's mother is by far more evil than Grendel himself. While Grendel did slaughter more men and more often, he only did so out of blind hatred and he lacked rational thought. He was simply a mindless fiend machine who didn't know any better. On the other hand, Grendel's mother knew exactly what she was doing, and she even plotted to kill the person that was closest to the king in order to cause him the most pain. This shows that although she had the potential to do good, she chose to do evil things, making her worse than Grendel.
Grendel's mother is more evil. Grendel commited his senseless acts out of jealousy. He could not stand the sight of the men rejoicing and enjoying themselves while they were in the heorot hall. As a result, he decided to terrorize the Heorot hall. Whereas to his mother who goes to Heorot to gain revenge for her son. To her, killing Hrothgar's closest friend was like Beowulf killing her son. They both lost someone they love dearly.
