Comprehending Figurative Language

What does the author mean by saying, "his misery leaped/ The Seas," and can you suggest other ways he may have expressed this idea? Please elaborate on why you created your idea the way you did, and explain how you came to your particular creation.

  1. The author meant that his story of misery crossed the seas through the mouths and ears of travelers who had heard of Hrothgar's plight.

Other ways he may have expressed this same general idea would've been to say that "his misery knew no bounds". This would've been also correct, because of the fact that a sea is considered a boundary. If it "knew no bounds", then his story could cross the sea and reach the ears of the people on a distant shore.
