If Grendel's father arrived on scene, there is a possibility that Grendel might not be as destructive or he may be more destructive. Many have retaliated in horrible ways due to the absence of a male figure. With his father, Grendel might have had enough attention whereas he wouldn't have to be so violent. In contrast, with anger in their blood, Grendel's dad might have been a negative influence on him. They might have even killed together.
If Grendel's father appeared on scene, the fight could have gone two ways for Beowulf. It was either win or lose, and he would need assistance from his soldiers. Grendel would have either felt stronger or weaker with the appearance of his father. Grendel would have felt stronger in my opinion because his father could have gave him motivation to feel more power with daddy around. The way he could of been weaker because his father could have watched him losing and be fairly disappointed in him making Grendel lose self motivation for himself.
The story would be more interesting if Grendel's father arrived on the scene. Beowulf would either lose the fight, or back down upon the arrival of Grendal's father. Or Beowulf would continue to fight the two demonic creatures, simultaneously, defeating them both. That would probably be the turning point of the story.
